Liupka BTC Ljubljana, Slovenia
We are pleased to see our latest project for the Slovenian brand ‘Liupka’ completed.
Liupka is a Slovenian brand specialising in arts and craft work. The shop is situated in a major retail centre BTC in Ljubljana. The largest store so far incorporates areas dedicated to fabric for sewing and patchwork, haberdashery, wool and yarn, sewing machines, as well as a learning centre where sewing, knitting and crocheting courses are held.
For both environmental and cost reasons, the lighting scheme aimed to reuse the existing light fittings inherited from the previous tenant, and only introduce additional lighting elements where needed. The existing linear fluorescent luminaires have been retained to provide a base ambient lighting layer. They were upgraded with the new lamps with warmer colour appearance and improved colour rendering.
Surface mounted adjustable spotlights have been used for product accent lighting. The existing metal halide spotlights, re-lamped for consistent lit appearance, were retained and re-positioned to suit new layout. In addition, a number of new LED spotlights were introduced for full product coverage, and to achieve appropriate light levels.
Lighting layout was developed utilizing the fundamental principles of human perception. The effect is maximised by strategic positioning of lighting elements in relation to display layout, effectively drawing customers in and along the main routes towards highlighted products. Rather than over-lighting the whole store, this approach ensured a dynamic light pattern hierarchy, with maximum effect achieved by minimal means.
Linear LED luminaires were incorporated within shelving details, which provide local display lighting to products where finer detail discrimination was required (sewing machines, small items haberdashery).
All lighting is of warm colour appearance for warm homely feel. Excellent colour rendering for product lighting throughout was crucial for fine colour discrimination, especially considering that the shop does not have access to natural light.
